Every data team wants to make insights more actionable for frontline business users. The only question is how. You know they spend the majority of their time in business-critical tools like HubSpot, Slack, and Microsoft Teams. So why not bring the data-driven insights created in ThoughtSpot to the apps they use most? With ThoughtSpot Sync, you can.
Starting today, ThoughtSpot customers will be able to send insights directly from ThoughtSpot to Google Sheets, Slack, and Microsoft Teams. And if you’re a Salesforce, HubSpot, or ServiceNow user, get excited because these sync capabilities are on their way.
How does ThoughtSpot Sync work?
ThoughtSpot Sync operationalizes data through reverse ETL. You can use it to create a sync from any answer or custom SQL view in ThoughtSpot to send the underlying data (and in some cases images) back to a business app. Let’s use Slack as an example.
The first time you set up a sync to Slack from ThoughtSpot, you’ll enter your Slack credentials so that Slack can authenticate you and ThoughtSpot can retrieve the Slack channels to which you have access. From there, you will enter the appropriate parameters unique to the app you’ve selected and hit Save. Voila! You just created your first sync.
Additionally, you will see the manage pipelines option on ThoughtSpot answers and custom SQL views which will show all syncs created local to your answer or view and you can delete, edit, and re-run existing syncs instead of creating new ones.
For a global view of all your syncs and sync activity, you can go to the new Sync page in the Data Workspace. This shows us all destinations (combination of user authentication and business app), all existing pipelines, and all pipeline activity to help troubleshoot any failed syncs. You can create syncs here as well on the pipelines tab. Admins will be able to see all destinations and pipelines whereas non-admins will only see destinations and pipelines they have created.
Finally, all access to create and manage syncs is controlled through a new Can manage sync permission. If your Admin assigns this to you, you’ll be able to set up and manage syncs local to answers and Custom SQL views in addition to accessing the new Sync page in the Data Workspace.
Top business use cases for ThoughtSpot Sync
ThoughtSpot Sync opens up a world of possibilities for your business users to be more insights-driven. Some of the most popular business use cases include:
Lead Sharing: As a sales manager, I want to send a ThoughtSpot answer weekly showing ranked leads to the sales Slack channel. This informs my sales team for each region to prioritize certain leads.
Customer Support Efficiency: As a data analyst, I want to send data from a ThoughtSpot custom SQL view I created showing average time to resolve support bugs by customer in the month to a Google Sheet that the Support team uses to track efficiency.
Churn Prevention: As an account manager, I want to send a ThoughtSpot answer showing retention score of customers to my Salesforce account page so that I know special care I need to give to customers with a low retention score.
